Horizon Credit Union is continually improving products and services to best meet members' needs.  As part of the ongoing commitment Horizon Credit Union has to its members, we have added security features to our already secure MemberDirect® online banking, to ensure our members receive the best possible protection available to them.

Why the New Security Enhancements?
Cyber-crime is common in today's online world. Criminals continue to discover new ways to attempt to compromise your personal information. So for your protection, we need to continue to increase the security features.

Have you ever received an email that appears to be from a financial institution? It may have asked you to update your account information by clicking on a link. This is called phishing. It is a criminal's attempt at gaining your personal account information. Our new, enhanced security feature will ensure you know you are on the authentic Horizon Credit Union online banking site -- MemberDirect.

How Do I Set Up Enhanced Security?
When you first sign into MemberDirect online banking, you will be prompted through the new enhanced security process as follows:

STEP 1

  • Log in as you have in the past, by entering your Card Number and then entering your Personal Access Code (PAC)

STEP 2

  • You will be requested to select an image and a security caption – select an image you will recognize the next time you Login—there are many to choose from!  A little hint--your security caption can only contain letters, numbers and spaces.

STEP 3

  • You will be given a group of challenge questions. You will have to choose three questions and provide answers for the questions – don’t forget the answers!

  • By clicking the "Register this computer" box you can register your personal computer so that we recognize it is you. When you Login from a computer that is not ‘registered’, we will ask you one of the 3 challenge questions just to make sure it is you trying to access your account.

    NOTE: You should only register your computer if you are the owner or sole user of the computer (such as your home or personal work computer). DO NOT register a shared work or public computer.

STEP 4

  • Confirm – review the image, caption and security questions you have chosen. At this point, you can edit any of the items or confirm that you are finished. Note: you can change your image, caption or security questions at any time by clicking on the "My Profile" tab in MemberDirect..

What Happens Next?

On your computer: Every time you log in to online banking on your own computer, you will see the image and security caption that you chose. If you don't see this, you know it's not the authentic MemberDirect site.

On a shared computer: If you log in to a shared computer, (i.e. at a library) you will be asked one of the three challenge questions. Once you answer one question correctly and enter an online banking password, you will be allowed to access your account.

You can change your image or challenge questions at any time.
