Horizon Credit Union Board of Directors

Meeting the needs of members while living up to our co-operative principles is a challenge that we meet everyday, in large part, thanks to our Board of Directors. Our Board combines sound business decision-making with co-operative principles, such as concern for community, to set a course for the credit union. The elected volunteers who serve on the credit union board make a meaningful difference in the credit union and the communities we serve.

Horizon Credit Union operates in a complex and fast-paced industry. Providing leadership and representing credit union members within this environment is a challenging undertaking, but the rewards are many. Our credit union directors play an important role in ensuring our members have access to excellent financial services and in building our communities.

Taking a leadership role in the credit union is not only a great way to make a difference in the community, it is also an exceptional opportunity for personal and professional development. Directors gain valuable experience in areas such as strategic planning and change management.

Meet Our Board

Heidi Schofer - President

Heidi has been a Director since 2004 at the Melville Branch. Heidi is married to Doug and they have two children, Julia and Graeme. They live on a grain farm west of Melville. Heidi has her Bachelor of Education degree and teaches in Melville. She and her family are avid campers. She also enjoys reading or being in her greenhouse.

Tim Taylor - Vice-President

Tim has been a Director since 1994 at the Wolseley Branch. Tim and his wife Darcy have one son, Landon. They reside in Wolseley. Tim has retired as the principal of Dr. Isman Elementary School, but still loves to substitute when he gets the chance. In his spare time he plays recreational hockey, golfs and enjoys going to Rider Games. He also really enjoys woodworking and is very involved with his church.

Brian Hicke - Secretary

Brian has been a Director since 2012 at the Melville Branch. Brian is married to Helen and they have four grown children and three grandchildren. Retired from owning and running Slow Helen’s Steak House in Melville, he now has more time to volunteer for many different community events. Brian also enjoys golfing, reading, movies, meetings and his family. 

Darrell Webster - Director

Darrell resides in Melville and has been a member of the Credit Union for 20 years. Darrell is now retired but with an education in Government Administration he has an extensive work history within this field. His early career stemmed from an Assistant Branch Manager, to Accountant and Manager for the City of Melville. In his spare time, Darrell enjoys reading, computer technology and sports in general.

Valdeen Mathies - Director

Valdeen has been a Director since 2011 at the Melville Branch. Valdeen and her husband Larry have two daughters and three grandchildren. She is semi‐retired and now working part time at Royal Drug Mart in Melville. In her spare time she enjoys bowling, gardening, walking, volunteering for community events as well as spending time with her grandchildren.

Ken Zimmer - Director

Ken has been a Director since 1985 at the Grayson Branch. Ken has three grown children and three grandchildren. Ken lives in Grayson, where he had farmed for many years. Ken has been involved with many community events throughout the years. He enjoys curling and going to Roughrider games.

Phil Peter - Director

Phil has been a Director since 1991 at the Grenfell Branch. Phil has three grown children, Tanya, Tammy & Tim. Phil resides in Grenfell with his wife Sheila. In his spare time he enjoys computers, reading, camping, cross country skiing and yard work.

Blair Van Caeseele - Director

Blair moved to Melville from Langenburg, Saskatchewan in 2006. Blair received his Bachelor of Business Administration in 2006 and his Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation in 2009. Blair has been working for the accounting firm of Miller Moar Grodecki Kreklewich & Chorney since 2006. In his spare time, he enjoys camping and curling.

Bonny Schweitzer - Director

Bonny has been a director since 2016 at the Neudorf branch.  Bonny holds a certificate in local government administration from the University of Regina and works for Miller Moar Grodecki Kreklewich & Chorney. She enjoys her time snowmobiling, camping, and enjoying her grandchildren.
