Frequently Asked Questions About The Mobile Banking App

Do I have to pay anything?

Absolutely not. The Horizon Credit Union Mobile App is free for our members to download, and you will never be charged for using the app. However, since the mobile app uses data, your carrier may charge, so standard data and messaging rates may apply.

How do I download the mobile app?

The FREE Horizon Credit Union Mobile App can be downloaded in just three easy steps. If you have not yet signed up for Online Banking, you will have to do that first.

For iPhone users:

  1. Using your iPhone, search for “Horizon Credit Union” in the App Store
  2. Select the app icon, and verify that the author of the app is Horizon Credit Union
  3. Tap the icon marked “Free,” then tap again when it changes to “Install”
  4. Enter your Apple App Store password and you’re done!

For Android™ users:

  1. Using your Android phone, tap the search icon and search for “Horizon Credit Union on Google Play™
  2. Select the app icon, and verify that the author of the app is Horizon Credit Union
  3. Tap the icon marked “Install,” then tap “Accept” in the next screen
  4. Once the app is finished installing, tap the open button and you’re done!

What is QuickView?

The unique QuickView feature displays the balances of your selected accounts any time the app is open, without needing to login first.

Does the QuickView feature automatically display my balances?

The default setting of the QuickView feature is “Off”. You can turn on QuickView under Settings>Preferences on the mobile app.

Will the mobile app work if I have a shared or joint account?

Yes. Just enter your account details as you normally would.

Will I still see my Personal Access Image when I log in?

No. Since the authenticity of the app is already verified by Apple / Google Play, you won’t have to go through this step to access your accounts and start banking.

If my phone is lost or stolen, will my information be at risk?

Your account can only be accessed by entering your personal access code. However, if you have activated the QuickView feature, your account balances will be visible. For additional security, we recommend you keep your phone password protected. Please note: at any time, you can stop the mobile app from accessing your account information by un-pairing it on our banking website.

As a rule, you should contact your mobile carrier right away to deactivate your phone. You may also change your personal access by Contacting Us.

I’m using a different brand of smartphone. Can I still access mobile banking?

Yes. You can continue to bank using our full-featured Mobile Web.

How do I remove the app from my phone?

For iPhone users: removing the app is as easy as tapping and holding your finger down on the Horizon Credit Union Mobile App icon, then tapping the “X” in the top right corner.

For Android users: if you’ve installed an app on your phone or tablet using Google Play that you no longer want, you can uninstall it by following these steps:

  1. Visit your device’s Settings menu > Apps or Application manager (this may differ depending on your device).
  2. Touch the app you’d like to uninstall.
  3. Select Uninstall.

What is the minimum version of the Apple (IOS) or Android operating system that my device must have in order to utilize the mobile app?

Currently the minimum version of the Apple (IOS) operating system is IOS 6.0 or later.  Currently the minimum for Android is version 4.0 and later.

Deposit Anywhere is a feature available on our mobile app for iPhone® and Android™ devices.

With Deposit Anywhere, you can quickly and securely deposit cheques with your smartphone or tablet, from anywhere, anytime. So whether you’re at coffee with friends, at work, or staying up late to get your banking done—any time is the right time to deposit cheques.

How does it work?

  1. Open the app on your smartphone
  2. Select your account and enter the amount
  3. Snap a photo of the front and back of your cheque
  4. Confirm the details and tap “submit”. That’s it.

How do I get Deposit Anywhere™?

Deposit Anywhere™ is available within the Horizon Credit Union Mobile App.

Do I have to sign up to use Deposit Anywhere™?
No. Deposit Anywhere™ will be available on both the Apple and Android apps. If you have one of these apps you will automatically have access to this service and it does not require any additional steps to activate.

How do I use Deposit Anywhere™?
Depositing a cheque with Deposit Anywhere™ is easy. Open up our mobile banking app, tap the “deposit” button, select the account you’d like the funds deposited to, enter the amount, take a photo of the front and back of the cheque, confirm the details and tap “submit”. The funds will then be deposited securely into your account.

Are there any fees for using Deposit Anywhere™?
No. There are no fees to use this service.

What types of cheques can I draw on?
You can deposit cheques payable in Canadian dollars and drawn at any Canadian financial institution. They must be payable to, and endorsed by, the account holder.

Can cheques be deposited into any account?
Cheques can be deposited into a savings or a chequing account with the exception of Lawyer Trust accounts.

Can multiples cheques be deposited at once?
No, each cheque must be deposited separately.

Will my deposited cheque show up immediately in my account and can I use the funds immediately?
Yes. The deposit shows up immediately in your account, however, there may be a hold on the deposit for up to five days. Please contact your branch oto review your account holds.

How will I know if there is an issue with my deposit after I submit the cheque?
In the rare circumstance that there is an issue with the deposit after you receive confirmation during the deposit, you will be contacted by us.

Is depositing cheques with a mobile phone safe?
Yes. As a feature of our mobile banking app, Deposit Anywhere™ meets the same high standards as our mobile and online banking services.

Do I have to mail in the cheques afterwards?
No. Once you have submitted the cheques using Deposit Anywhere™, you do not need to send the cheques to the branch.

What do I do with paper cheques after they have been deposited?
You are required to retain deposited cheques for a period of 120 days once deposited. As soon as a cheque is deposited, it is important to mark the cheque ‘deposited via mobile’ on the face of the cheque (without obscuring any material information on the cheque). After the 120 day retention period, cheques should be destroyed by marking them VOID or shredding them.
